The Vault ~ Reims

Notre-Dame de Paris might be the most famous cathedral in France, but I also am a big fan of the Notre- Dame de Reims cathedral in Reims, North-East of Paris, home of Champagne.

I first visited the cathedral on a cold Christmas Eve and got overwhelmed by the atmosphere. I felt so tiny next to those huge columns and I sat there listening to a children choir singing softly Christmas songs.

The vault is 38m high (125 feet) with no decoration. The austerity and the cold inside creates an intimidating atmosphere.
It is definitely a place I would go visit again and again.

Burgos Cathedral II

Waking up really early in the morning, before the city has awaken and walk in the empty streets is really blissful. It gives the whole city another dimension, a new face.

This shot was taken at dawn, in Burgos, Spain. It's one of the most famous cathedrals in the country and one of the most visited on the Camino de Santiago. I never got the chance (stupid me) to visit inside of it but apparently, after asking many people that did, it is the most beautiful cathedral (from inside) on the Camino.

I also took another shot from my first Camino, this time from the front.

Notre Dame de Paris

This past year, I have visited many cathedrals during my travels. I always find these worship places quite impressive.

Notre Dame (Our Lady in french) is one of the icons of Paris of course, located not far from the Musee du Louvre. It is one of the most visited places in the city.

Its construction began in 1163 and was effectively completed by 1345 (a 182 years of construction). It is one of the first Gothic cathedrals.

Burgos Cathedral

I love to take frontal wide-angle shots of imposing buildings!
This was taken last May while doing the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage path in Spain. It's the Cathedral of Burgos, a Gothic-style construction that began in 1221 and dedicated to the Virgin mary. It was declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO in 1984.
It is quite an imposing and magnificent cathedral, in the old part of the city of Burgos. I did not have the chance to visit the inside of it (they were closing).
Definitely I will be visiting again on my next Camino!
